TuS Germania 0 V 1 Vintage Clarets

Group Game 1: Hamm Stadium, Saturday 23rd May 2015, K.O 12:40pm
Report by Steve Bott

IT really was a case of Ooohh! George Oghani in this one as the veteran striker came off the bench to head in the winner.

A closely fought game had seen the Clarets spurn a number of chances but the defence, marshalled superbly by the cool, calm Gerry Harrison, held firm when called on as the VCs struggled to make a breakthrough.

The crowd thought they had won a penalty early in the second half when Brad Maylett went down on the left hand side of the box, but although it looked like one from where we were stood right behind the goal, the referee thought otherwise and Maylett held his hand up afterwards and honestly admitted he had just fallen over.

The decisive moment came when the Clarets won a corner on the right. Jon Borland swung the ball in and Oghani leapt to get to it first and head the ball home.

So, a winning start and three points in the bag was just what the doctor ordered and set the VCs up nicely for their second game.

TEAM (4-4-2): Lee – Hamilton, Harrison, Atkinson, Hill – Borland, Deary, Kevan, Lancashire – Robinson, Maylett.
