THREE second half goals in a 30-minute spell eased the Vintage Clarets to victory against a gritty Kenanks side.
The amateurs from in and around the Burnley area made it difficult for the former professionals in the first half.
The restaurant boys didn’t make a meal of things, chaisng down their opponents, marking tightly and counter-attacking quickly as the Clarets struggled to find their shape and rhythm.
In the second half, it was a different story as the Claretss, under the firm but fair guidance of guest manager Stan Ternent, pushed forward more and got their reward.
George Oghani, on for Graham Lancashire fifteen minutes before the break, stretched to fire in a cross from Lewis Craig ten minutes into the second period.
Unfortunately George pulled his calf muscle in the process and limped off immediately after his goal.
Nine minutes later, ace striker Liam Robinson got what is now becoming his customary goal when he headed Paul Atkinson’s right wing cross firmly into the back of the net.
Caution was thrown to the wind as the Clarets gained control and they ended with an adventurous front three of left back Dennis Hill, the non-stop, play-anywhere Graham Lancashire and Paul Atkinson.
And it was Lancashire who bamboozled the keeper with some flashy footwork to score the third and final goal, ten minutes later.
Further chances went begging as Dennis Hill missed a glorious chance for a fourth with the goal gaping, something he got a bit of banter for afterwards!
It was a pleasing performance from the Clarets, with lots of sterling work and determination against a youthful Kenanks side, which became the hallmark of Stan Ternent’s teams in recent years.
Clarets lined up: Dickie Lee – Chris Scott, Gerry Harrison (C), Chris Casper, Paul Atkinson – Graham Lancashire, John Deary, Alex Kevan, David Eyres – Andy Payton, Liam Robinson.
