MIDFIELD dynamo Alex Kevan scored the Vintage Clarets opening goal in their first game of the seven-a-side tournament at Gawthorpe on Sunday – then hit the winner in the final!
The Evertonian roofer hit the heights with a non-stop show capped by that winner in the final against Marks and Spencers Burnley.
M and S didn’t go away empty handed either as they topped the other five teams taking a trophy and they also saw one of their players, Jordan Harrison, named Man of the Tournament.
The other teams taking part in what was a first venture for the VCs were Simon Jersey Ltd, Airedale NHS Trust, Burnley Express and Paradigm Precision.
Torrential rain prior to the 5pm kick-off had many players and supporters thinking the tournament would be called off as they travelled in.
But all was well on arrival, and there was even a car park attendant directing vehicles at the Clarets superb purpose-built training facility.
Graham Lancashire, Liam Robinson, Roger Eli, Gerry Harrison and John Deary were just some of the players in the VCs squad on a miserable November Sunday evening.
And while spectator numbers were down due to the weather, there was an appearance by the local constabulary, complete with video camera and dogs on the hunt for a wanted man!
All action stuff then, and the man Kevan went off on his golfing holiday to Dubai a very happy man after his winning show!
