VINTAGE Clarets recorded a 3-0 victory in their latest match against Kenanks Utd, which took place at Belvedere FC on Sunday 23rd August.
The match was played to help raise funds for the Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team, and saw Stan Ternent take up the guest manager role for the first time, and was also joined by Frank Casper in the dugout.
It was a fantastic occasion once again, organised by Nick Carter for the last couple of years, and one which the Clarets enjoy competing in.
There were welcome returns to the squad for Paul Atkinson, George Oghani and Graham Lancashire, who had missed the last few games, and Andy Payton made his second successive start up front alongside Liam Robinson.
And it was Oghani who opened the scoring, followed by a fantastic header from Robinson, that set the Clarets on their way to victory. The scoring was complete when Lancashire showed great skill to finish cooly past the keeper.
Stan Ternent’s influence on the shape of the team following a difficult first half was quite something, as the slight adjustments enabled the Clarets to play with much more control and go on to win the game.
Charity is always the winner in these events, and special mention must go to Nick and the team at Kenanks Utd for putting on a great day for all concerned, they even managed to avoid a torrential downpour at the end!
